Liquid Hydrogen (LH2) distribution infrastructure and safety are important areas where Sweden needs to be technology ready in the coming decade to meet the potential demand from transport sectors. Aviation, marine and heavy-duty truck industries are transitioning to hydrogen powered fleets which in the initial stages can be managed by Compressed Hydrogen Gas (CHG). LH2 has significant advantages over CHG in terms of energy density. To understand the technology lock-in faced by LH2 and infrastructure, research in distribution and refuelling segments of the value chain is needed. This pre-study is to investigate on the LH2 distribution solution and compare with gas distribution and on-site hydrogen production. Challenges related to scalability, flexibility (uneven demand), footprint of Hydrogen Refuelling Station (HRS), safety and levelized cost are analysed.
