Do you want to learn more about international climate cooperation? The Swedish Energy Agency is a proud partner of a new online course developed by UNDP and UN Climate Change on operationalizing Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.

An external evaluation shows that Sweden's programme for international climate cooperation under the Kyoto Protocol is expected to result in reduced greenhouse gas emissions corresponding to 34.5 million tonnes of carbon dioxide. The programme has also contributed to sustainable development and transfer of knowledge.

To speed up the implementation of Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, a new initiative was launched by Japan today at UN Climate Change Conference COP27. State Secretary to the Minister for Climate and the Environment in Sweden, Mr. Daniel Westlén, attended the launching ceremony in Sharm el-Sheikh.

Globally, cities account for more than 70 percent of the world's CO2 emissions. Therefore, the including of cities in the process of reducing global warming is essential. Sweden's method for organising this on a national level has inspired the EU's Cities Mission.

In connection with Stockholm +50 – an international meeting on the environment convened by the UN General Assembly – Sweden signed Memorandums of Understanding with Nepal and the Dominican Republic. The agreements lay the groundwork for climate cooperation between the countries under the terms of Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.

As the rules of Article 6 of the Paris Agreement are being negotiated during the international climate summit COP26 in Glasgow, the Swedish Energy Agency expands its Article 6 cooperation with the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI). The expanded cooperation will strengthen Sweden’s efforts to support the reduction of global emissions in compliance with the Paris Agreement.

During COP26 Ghana and Sweden signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Article 6 of the Paris agreement.  

The Swedish Energy Agency (SEA) has partnered with Gold Standard to facilitate the Swedish Government’s acquisition of quality Internationally Transferred Mitigation Outcomes (ITMOs) under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, aiming to serve as a model for broader international cooperation in mitigating climate change.

The Swedish Energy Agency (SEA) is seeking to sign mitigation outcome purchase agreement(s) with one or several actors to enable the implementation of greenhouse gas (GHG) mitigation activities in the Republic of Ghana. For this purpose, a public procurement process is being launched and actors are invited to submit Mitigation Activity Design Documents (MADD), which will be evaluated by the SEA.
