Charging Infrastructure in Sweden

Sweden is rapidly advancing towards an electrified transport sector. Currently, there is a comprehensive and growing network of charging stations for passenger cars. The expansion for heavy transport vehicles is also ongoing.

To achieve extensive electrification of the transport sector, it must be possible to charge vehicles easily, reliably, and safely.

Charging Stations for Passenger Cars

In the prioritized road network by the Swedish Transport Administration, there are fast-charging stations for passenger cars within a distance of ten kilometers in almost all of Sweden. On European roads and designated national roads, the distance is even shorter, with fast charging available within six kilometers.

Charging Stations for Heavy Vehicles

The expansion of charging infrastructure for heavy vehicles is also underway. Between 2022 and 2024, the Swedish Energy Agency, through our support for Regional Electrification Pilots, has contributed to the establishment of approximately 60 charging stations for heavy vehicles. The goal is to have 250 charging stations in place by the end of 2025.

National Coordination

The Swedish Energy Agency coordinates the charging infrastructure for road transport to promote and accelerate the expansion. We also support, monitor, and analyze how an efficient charging infrastructure can be developed.

Implementation programme for recharging and hydrogen refuelling infrastructure

Swedish Energy Agency and the Swedish Transport Administration have developed a implementation programme for recharging and hydrogen refuelling infrastructure. The implementation programme includes 55 proposed measures in a number of areas deemed urgent to promote the expansion of recharging and hydrogen refuelling infrastructure.
